Summary by Ian McMean
Claire was born, raised and educated in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. She studied Art at Newcastle University then joined my studios as a trainee designer and Illustrator, eventually becoming Head Designer, visualiser and selector, during which time she worked in the UK, Sri Lanka, Canada, the USA, South Africa, Pakistan and on accounts in Australia and New Zealand. She is a trained Illustrator, Designer and Retail Selector and now specialises as a Painter and Concept Designer. We were married in 2001 in South Africa and have a little boy called Kit hence why we have resettled in the UK.
I trained in Manchester, Italy, France and New York as a Painter, Illustrator, Designer and Engraver. I travelled extensively worldwide, especially in Europe, Africa, Canada and the Far East. Eventually became an International Art Director for many of the International Corporates, I am now concentrating on my work as a Painter and Sculpture.

'In my latest works I have become very aware of expanse and grandeur, of the power of nature, the effect that the elements have on the surfaces and environment mood, iconic to the point of sublimity. I work in isobars, the contours of the earth, with the natural erosions and protrusions, all working and moving together in harmony, each piece within the total composition maintaining it's own identity and sovereignty. Roads have a power as do the streams and water forces, albeit they have been put there by man, but they are needed in our environment. Mists add to the sublimity, creating voids which are bottomless. The skies are an entity, not a backcloth to the landscape, changing by the second, dominating the mood of the enviroment, the elements physically changing the landscape. My work is a total movement.'

'My work covers a wide area of styles and techniques. I do not disipline myself to any one style. Occasionally I go back to a style I have worked on before and evolve to the next stage. Sometimes the technique will change along with the new translation, I am controlled by the subject matter and that which I feel at any one time. I am inspired by realism, that which I have seen, this is my starting point from which I evolve in many directions. At times I find realism is the statement I want to make, I do not change to be different.
At this time my mountainscapes and landscapes are becoming graphic with an oriental accent and will form an integral part of an exhibition we will be holding this year, 2010, 'From the Camera to the Canvas'. My research, inspired by the Planet Earth has now gone to 'the life' stage, to the evolvement of life on planet earth and will be launched at Lanercost Priory, in April/May 2010.'
