Aspects of the Earth and the Solar System translated into art-forms
By Claire & Ian McMean
Inspired by Planet Earth, this never ending subject you can add to forever. This last exhibition was the start for us, we were learning, hopefully making people think a little and to cherish that which we have around us.
We now look at some of the images we painted last year and say, "why did we create that", "we can do better" maybe next year we will be saying the same. Each day we are learning and evolving with new knowledge and will do so throughout our time on Earth. We are forever seeking, we will never shut out new thoughts or change and will never lose our faith in life.
We have not remotely attempted to be scientific or spiritual, or be party to the Creationists versus the Evolutionists, the 150 year old controversy, but things change by use, by need and by experience. Faith runs alongside these changes, it is not an either or situation, if the word to describe change is Evolution so be it, to us the word Evolution does not cancel out and negate faith.
You can ask the following questions time and again, you can read volumes about our Planet Earth and there can be enormous variations in the answers you receive, some valid, some not. We are not advocates nor scholars on the creation of Earth and Life on Earth, we are painters of that which we can see and imagine.
How did Earth come about, what made it, where is it, is there anything else like it, how did life begin on earth, how did we arrive where we are today, you can ask these or like questions forever. Claire and I are just getting on with it and enjoying what we have now, learning from what was and hopefully being able to recognise when changes happen or when new thoughts offer further enlightenment, but our faith will continue and will never change. Without faith you have lost the nectar of life, the spirit of creation, that which makes you want to simply get out of bed in the morning and move forward.
Our next exhibition will again be at Lanercost, April / May 2010. We are now reflecting on how life began on earth, the first life forms and how we arrived at where we are today, followed by the cultures and sciences of mankind and finally the spirit and faith of man.
